In light of the recent proliferation of Internet-based mentoring programs and in keeping with its prior interest with youth-based activities, Federal Focus has recently established the Ed-Mentor Program. Through the Ed-Mentor Program, Federal Focus seeks to act as a facilitator to assemble the best minds in the Internet mentoring industry through organization of conferences on that topic.
The Ed-Mentor conferences are designed to bring together providers and recipients of mentoring services to share their own experiences and successes. Proceedings of the conferences offer a template delineating what these experienced experts believe to be the optimal, results-oriented procedures for Internet-mentoring which could be used in urban, suburban, and rural settings worldwide. Interested parties could then implement mentoring programs or modify existing programs based upon these principles.
By helping to design better mentoring services, the Federal Focus Ed-Mentor Program aims to provide both students and the wider community with the information and communications tools needed to make a difference in the lives of young people. The First Annual Federal Focus Ed-Mentor Symposium on Telementoring was held September 27, 1999 in Washington, D.C.
